A study in children demonstrated a severe impact of soft drinks on calcium levels. Fifty-seven children with low blood calcium levels were compared to 171 children with normal calcium levels.42 Of the 57 children who had low blood calcium levels, 66.7 percent drank more than four 12- to 16-ounce bottles of soft drinks per week. Only 28 percent of the 171 children with normal serum calcium levels consumed that many soft drinks per week. For all 228 children, a strong correlation was seen in the serum calcium level and the number of bottles of soft drinks consumed each week. |

We have literally thousands of nutritionists and the better educated doctors from around the world standing up and saying soft drinks need to be banned from vending machines. soft drinks are causing chronic obesity and diabetes even among our nation's youth. Folks, this isn't something that's really debated, not by any honest person out there. This is just something that's being defended by the last bastion of a group of well-paid nitwits who have similar ethics to tobacco company executives. |

The more soft drinks consumed, the lower the calcium level in the blood. Due to the high intake of soft drinks in the United States, we can probably expect to see increased osteoporosis in the "Pepsi generation" for many years to come. The American per-capita consumption of soft drinks is about three quarts per week.
Other nutritional factors also accelerate calcium loss and may be implicated in osteoporosis. Refined sugar may raise the risk for osteoporosis by increasing the loss of calcium from the body and by causing a significant increase in fasting serum Cortisol levels. |

| What's stupid is that we live in a country where there are "on the take" doctors and researchers who would argue against the idea that soft drinks promote obesity and diabetes. It's basically common sense to anyone who has half a brain and has spent more than 60 minutes studying the issue. When you understand how blood sugar is regulated in the human body, how the pancreas works, and how the digestive system converts dietary sugars into blood glucose, it's blatantly obvious that candy bars and soft drinks are foods and drinks that promote both obesity and diabetes. |

While on the soft drinks, they continued to consume their normal calorie intake and gained an average of 2V2 pounds each.5 Some researchers think that the HFCS—the cheap sweetener used in most sodas—even stimulates appetite. While this link has not been proven, one thing we know for sure: Drink excess calories and you'll gain weight!
People just don't seem to notice calories from soft drinks. Researchers speculate that because the drink travels so quickly through your mouth, there's little time for a signal to get to the brain and alert it that you're consuming calories. |

Giving up unhealthy foods and beverages
Now here's a number that's astonishing: Forty-three point one percent reported quitting their consumption of soft drinks. I've written many articles about the dangers of soft drinks, including articles that looked at the link between soft drink consumption and diabetes, loss of bone density and even mental depression. Apparently the word is getting out and people are changing their habits and actually quitting soft drinks. I'm very pleased to see this and astonished that it's 43.1 percent. |

They go down fast and they're not even really foods so you may ask, what's the problem? soft drinks (and sugary juices and other sweetened drinks as well) can create a serious bulge in your total daily calorie intake without much reward in terms of satisfaction. It's pretty shocking to learn that calories from beverages on average account for 1 of every 5 calories in the American diet.2 Worse news: soft drinks alone are the source of 33 percent3 of all added sugars and 7.1 percent of total calories in the American diet.4 In teens, it's even higher pushing over 12 percent of total calories! |

We will all do well to stop drinking soft drinks, because they really have no nutritional benefit to the human body whatsoever. In fact, they are a detriment to human health, and in a sane society the marketing of soft drinks to children would never be legally allowed. |

Phosphorus is found in the form of phosphoric acid in many soft drinks. Phosphorus levels in the diet have increased because of food additives.
The phosphorus in the seeds of plants is found in the form of phytates (also called phytic acid). Phytates lessen the availability of calcium, magnesium, and iron. In phytate or phytic acid form, only about half of the phosphorus is available for absorption. This presents little difficulty as phosphorus is present in virtually all diets in adequate amounts.
TOXICITY OF PHOSPHORUS
Excess phosphorus in the blood is called hyperphosphatemia. |

The cause, in large part, is related to the worldwide distribution and consumption of
American junk foods, from soft drinks to burgers and fries. Such convenience foods displace more nutritious foods.
In the United States, three-fourths of Americans do not consume the extremely minute yet required daily amount of folic acid, a key B vitamin that is involved in maintaining good moods. Similarly, almost half of us don't get enough vitamin C, about one-third don't consume enough vitamin B6, and almost a third don't have enough vitamin B12 in their diets. |
| Part of the reason is our growing consumption of fast foods, convenience foods, soft drinks, and other junk foods, which are typically high in sugars and sugarlike carbs and low in protein, fiber, and vitamins. At the very least, junk foods displace healthier and more nutritious foods that contain lots of neuronutrients; however, junk foods also interfere with how the body uses essential nutrients.
We've been told that nutritional deficiencies are prevalent in developing and poor nations, and we believe that they are rare in modern Western nations. |

It was approved for use in soft drinks in 1983, but it has made virtually no impact upon the growing problem of obesity and diabetes, both which are risk factors for cancer.
Now, decades after its introduction into foods as a non-caloric sweetener, researchers in at the Cesare Maltoni Cancer Research Center in Bologna, Italy, report that aspartame (Nutrasweet) provokes tumors in animals at doses less than what is considered acceptable for daily human intake. The daily intake level is 50 mg per kilogram (2.2 lbs) of body weight in the U.S. and 40 mg in Europe. |

Caffeine-containing beverages such as most soft drinks, tea or coffee, on the other hand, have a diuretic effect, and draw water from the protective stomach lining. One cup of coffee or an alcoholic drink can easily bring on a painful attack.
The stomach pain is the first signal to tell a person that something is off balance with regard to his eating habits or the hydrating of his body. The suppression of this pain through drugs usually prevents the patient from finding out what is causing it. |

Examples: Sugars, such as sucrose and high-fructose corn syrup, are found in nearly all nonfruit sweets, including desserts, doughnuts, pastries, and muffins, as well as soft drinks. Refined grains are used to make bagels, breads, pastas, and pizzas—and most whole-grain breads and pastas are also problematic. They are still highly refined, though not quite as bad as white breads or pseudo whole wheat breads (that is, white breads with molasses added to darken their color). |

Small amounts of calcium may also be lost as a result of the phosphoric acid in some soft drinks and the diuretic action of coffee.
Calcium and Osteoporosis
Osteoporosis is a disease that involves loss of bone strength leading to an increased risk of fracture. It is well known to occur in postmenopausal women, but can also be present in other populations. Osteoporosis afflicts 25 million people in the United States, but there are no symptoms unless a bone is broken. Hip fracture in an older person is something to be avoided as it makes movement difficult and can be slow to heal. |

It is true that beverages such as tea, coffee, wine, beer, soft drinks, sports drinks and juices contain water, but they also contain caffeine, alcohol, sugar, artificial sweeteners or other chemicals that act as strong dehydrators. The more of these beverages you consume, the more dehydrated your body becomes because the effects they create in the body are exactly opposite the ones that are produced by water. Beverages containing caffeine, for example, trigger stress responses that at first have strong diuretic effects, leading to increased urination. |

People often combat this fatigue the way drunks do—by drinking coffee and soft drinks (many of which combine caffeine and sugars) to temporarily boost energy levels and improve mental sharpness. Caffeine also increases the secretion of adrenaline and Cortisol, while decreasing levels of calming neurotransmitters, such as serotonin and GABA. Tired, stimulated, and distracted, the mind becomes a jumble.
Just about everyone knows that too much caffeine has side effects, including headaches and an edgy feeling. |

Many big city children grow up with the notion that food means highly processes junk; drinking water is not necessary, but soft drinks are; and that nature is merely something to watch on The Discovery Channel, an American cable television station.
The costs of forsaking a life of balance are astronomical. Many people recognize that our modern way of life, with its ever-increasing comforts and material acquisitions along with the demands to acquire and maintain them, doesn't allow for a healthful way of life. |

"We're born into a preordained, toxic environment that grabs our children and won't let them go," maintains Dr. |

Indeed, soft drinks are making a major contribution to our added poundage. Of course, if you cut out the 150 calories— all from sugar—you get in each can of soda from other places in your diet, you'd wind up even in terms of calories (except for the nutrients missed, which is a major minus!) but most people don't do this. Keep in mind that just one soda a day that's not compensated for by some other reduction in your diet can add up to 15 pounds in just 1 year. |

TIP: AVOID ATTRACTING BEES
Avoid using fragrances, including hair spray, scented soaps, lotions, and oils, and keep soft drinks and sweet foods covered. Do not wear brightly colored clothing, particularly floral patterns. If a bee does land on you, blow on it gently to encourage it to move on without startling it.

She will not rev up her system—and her baby's—by ingesting caffeine in soft drinks or coffee, not to mention taking diet pills or cocaine.
Giving birth with love means the mother will avoid taking an anesthetic to ease her own pain because she knows it will deprive the baby of oxygen and shut down many of her baby's systems. Because birth is often a life-and-death matter, a trauma inflicted here becomes imprinted and can endure for a lifetime. After birth, for a mother to love her baby, she must hold it close and breast-feed so that she and her child can develop a strong bond. |

Despite their warm and fuzzy names, soft drinks in health food stores are no better than their supermarket cousins. A 12-ounce can of Blue Sky Natural soda contains 160 calories and 42 grams of sugars from "glucose-fructose syrup," which sounds suspiciously like high-fructose corn syrup. Similarly, a can of Boyland's Cane Cola has 41 grams of sugars.
Health and natural food stores do shine with a great many other products, though. For example, Arrowhead Mills peanut butter contains only peanuts, compared with supermarket brands, such as Skippy, which use partially hydrogenated vegetable oils. |
